Green Waste
Green waste should not be deposited in wheelie bins. Green waste should be composted or delivered to the Yass Transfer Station for mulching and composting. Mulched and composted products are available for purchase at the Yass Transfer Station at quite attractive rates.
The management of green waste has become a major component of waste management over the past few years. Removing green waste by either burning or transfer to landfill was not considered a suitable environmental solution by Council.
It is a more expensive option to mulch and compost green waste, however Council viewed that this was a price that the Community should pay in order to ensure an environmental sustainable solution is achieved.
Green waste is collected stockpiled and reduced in volume utilising contract mulching equipment three to four times annually. This shredded material is then composted.
The following products may be purchased from Yass or Murrumbateman Transfer Stations (subject to availability):
- Mulch - $5.50 m3
- Screened Compost - $22.00 m3
